Have you seen the newly released Stranger Things 3 trailer? We’re pretty sure the new Invertor Automatic from Xeric must have escaped from the Upside Down. Check this thing out!
It’s currently available on Kickstarter and it looks incredible. At only $499, it’s the first inverted automatic by an independent watch brand to retail for under $20k. Plus Xeric developed a proprietary reversion module that attaches to the high-end Miyota 9000 Calibre Automatic so that the hands spin counter-clockwise. This was needed because when you flip the movement upside down, the hands then run clockwise like a normal analog watch.
Watch this video from the designer Mitch Greenblatt which explains the design process and the challenges with making such an unusual timepiece.
For those of you who are all about the details, here’s more information.
HIGH END AUTOMATIC
The Invertor Automatic is built around the Citizen’s most prestigious movement – the Miyota Calibre 9000 series. This movement was chosen because of its high beat rate of 28,800 beats per hour, 24 jewels and a 42 hour power reserve. It’s a super slim automatic movement at only 3.9mm thick and it competes with the ETA 2824 – the gold standard from Switzerland.
REVERSION MODULE
Xeric’s proprietary module attaches to the mainplate reversing both the hour and minute train so it runs counterclockwise, but when you invert the movement it appears to run clockwise.
Each module is thoroughly tested throughout the assembly process to ensure it still holds the same factory chronometric standards (-10/+30 sec per day). This means the Invertor Automatic maintains the reliability and serviceability of the Miyota Calibre 9000 while creating a fun way of displaying time.
LIMITED EDITION
The Invertor Automatic will be limited to only 999 per color. Each watch will be individually numbered. We hope this will become a prized piece of your watch collection.
AMERICAN LEATHER
The straps are made using full grain leather from Horween, one of the oldest continuously running tanneries in the United States. Since 1908, Horween has been making the highest quality leather from their Chicago location on the corner of Elston and Ashland.
SAPPHIRE + HESALITE
Sapphire glass is known for its clarity and hardness. It is one of the hardest substances on earth, second only to diamond. This means it is virtually scratchproof which is why we chose it for the top crystal on the Invertor Automatic.
For the side crystal, we chose a material called Hesalite which is more shatter resistant than sapphire glass. Because of the crystal’s unusual shape, each one has to be CNC machined to control the tolerances needed to align the crown tube and still maintain 3 ATM water resistance.
SWISS SUPER-LUMINOVA
All models feature Super-LumiNova filled hands and rotors for late night adventures. Luminous pigments work like light storage batteries, where UV light charges the “battery” and afterward, the energy is slowly emitted in the form of light. This activation and subsequent light emission process can be repeated again and again, and the material does not suffer from aging.
Preorder now on Kickstarter. Don’t miss out because the campaign ends May 24th 2019.
